Project description and objectives

eReader

In 2011, Blacktown City Libraries launched its eReader collection to coincide with the launch of the Overdrive Digital Library for its members.

The eReaders and the downloadable eBook and eAudiobook collections were an initiative in support of Councils ‘bridging the digital divide’ trigger project. To ensure that the residents of Blacktown have equitable access to computer technology and enjoy the ensuing benefits associated with increased techno-literacy.

This collection consists of 20 eReader kits including, cables, covers, SD cards, instructions and either a Kobo or Hanvon branded eReader.

The collection has been publicised via the library website and in library flyers and was also featured mentioned in Council press releases to the local media. Current usage statistics have shown the eReaders to be a popular addition to the Library’s collection.

Initial loans of this collections were for one week only, with no option to renew or reserve the items, however this loan period has been extended to three weeks in response to feedback from borrowers.
